Candidates are hired in mainly eight categories namely NTPC (Non-technical popular categories), RPSF (Railway Protection Special Force), RPF (Railway Protection Force) Paramedical Staff, Group A, Group B, Group C and Group

Quotas

As Railway Jobs are mostly government jobs, there are several quotas applicable to the vacancies. Three major quotas are Sports, Cultural and Scouts & Guides Quota.

Education Qualification

For Group C and Group D (non gazetted) recruitment, the candidates should be atleast 10th pass or have diploma/equivalent from ITI in relevant trade. On the other hand, for Group A and B (gazetted), the candidates should have an undergraduate or postgraduate degree. 

Details about Group A, Group B, Group C , Group D

In the Indian Railway, the majority of recruitment are done in 4 major groups.

Group A: The posts in Group A are filled by UPSC, i.e Civil Service Exam, Engineering Service and Combined Medical Service Exam. 

Group B: The Group B posts are filled by senior Group C employees on deputation. This is the section officers’ grade.

Group C: Group C posts range from technical to non technical posts. Group C includes Clerks, Station Masters, TC, various apprentices and engineering posts. 

Group D: Group D includes Peons, Trackman, Gunman, Helpers and Assistant points men among others. 

Selection Process

For Group A and Group B, there are both written and oral or viva voce examinations. For Group C and Group D, there is only a written Examination.

For some selective posts, there are skill tests like typing or stenography tests. And for the others including Assistant Loco Pilot and Assistant Station master posts, there is an additional Aptitude test. 

For some of the vacancies including Group D, the notification is not yet announced. In Group D recruitment, the candidates first need to clear the CBT(Computer Based Test). The successful candidates then need to pass the Physical Efficiency Test (PET). Next, the candidates will be called for document and candidature verification. Once those are done, the successful candidates will be called for a medical test. 

Once the medical test is done, a final merit list will be published considering the Written Exam, PET, document verification and medical test. The successful candidates in the final merit list will be asked to join training. 

RPF Recruitment

There are two major posts in RPF, where recruitments happen in large numbers. They are RPF Sub inspector (SI) and Constable (Ancillary). Metro Rail Recruitment

In Metro Rail Recruitment 2022, the vacancies are only for experienced candidates. The total Metro Rail recruitment spans over MMRCL, NMRCL, Gujarat Metro Rail, LMRC, JMRC, Railtel Corporation of India, RITES, DMRC and Konkan Railway among others. And eligible candidates are recruited for the posts of Safety Counselor, Junior and Senior Manager, Managing Director, Joint General Manager, Assistant Manager, Manager, Chief Project Manager, Deputy General Manager and many more. 

RRB NTPC Recruitment

There are 9 major posts in NTPC( Non Technical Popular Categories) for which recruitment will be done by RRB NTPC exam. The posts and the corresponding qualification requirements are as follows:

Selection Process in RRB NTPC

The selection process includes examination in two stages. The whole selection process covers five categories in its syllabus.

They are:

  • General Awareness
  • General Intelligence
  • Arithmetic
  • Technical Ability
  • Reasoning Ability [ Verbal and Non-Verbal ]

Stage 1 has 90 minutes time limit and covers three parts:

  • General Intelligence and Reasoning : 30 marks
  • Mathematics : 30 marks
  • General Awareness : 40 marks

The exam has MCQ questions which carry negative marks for wrong answers. 

Stage 2 is for the candidates who have successfully cleared Stage 1. This stage contains 150 objective questions to be attempted within 90 minutes. This also carries negative marks for wrong answers. 

For both Stage 1 and Stage 2, the duration is 120 minutes for PWD candidates.
